It is a pleasure to offer this exquisite example of the ultra-portable Orvis Rocky Mountain Fly Rod.  Made in 1971, this rod is marked on all sections with serial number 62,212.  The butt section is also marked in Orvis script over four flats “Orvis Impregnated / Rocky Mountain / 6 1/2' - 3 1/4 oz. / HDG (6).”  The rod features impregnated cane built entirely from the butt-cut ends of Tonkin culms, a fully functional aluminum down screw-locking reel seat over a walnut spacer, a Mildrum stripping guide, and steel snake guides.  Each sections is just 26 3/8 inches long, and all sections are full length and perfectly straight.  By all indications, this rod has seen very little use; however, I must note that the cork grip has a small divot on the third cork ring below the winding check.  I take full blame for this mark in the cork.  When I received the rod, there was a rectangular section of hardened, sticky residue on the grip (perhaps a sticker or label of some sort?).  It had to be removed, so I carefully removed as much as I could, but one of the pieces held firmly to the cork, exposing a soft spot in the cork ring.  If desired, the ring can be sanded or replaced, but it is not as bad as it might sound (please see photos).  In any case, this minor blemish will have no effect whatsoever on the way the rod fishes.  Were it not for the one cork ring, this rod would grade to near mint.  The ferrules are sizes 13/10, and the fit is excellent.  The rod weighs 3.30 ounces, which is very close to the 3.25 ounces marked on the rod and tube label.  Completing this outfit is the original gray bag and green/silver labeled aluminum tube, both in superb condition.  These rods don’t show up often, since they are prized by their owners and relatively smaller numbers were produced.  Don’t miss this excellent plus 6’6” pack rod rated for an HDG (6 wt., some prefer a 5 wt.) line.  $950 shipped and insured.
