8’ Phillipson Pacemaker Bamboo Fly Rod, 3/2, 5 wt., 1947-1950

Offered is this fantastic and versatile 8’ 3/2 Phillipson Pacemaker rated for an HEH (5 wt.) line.  This rod was built between 1947 and 1950 with a gorgeous mahogany colored cane and wrapped in green tipped yellow.  The ferrules are sizes 16/10, and the fit is excellent.  All sections are full length and straight.  All guides and ferrules are tight.  The full wells grip extends into a bright aluminum down screw-locking reel seat with black plastic spacer.  The cork is in very good condition with a few small hook marks near the reel seat.  The reel seat has only minor scuffing on the bottom of the butt cap.  The varnish is excellent.  There are two minor considerations to note.  First, the first snake guide on the mid section has been re-wrapped (please see photos).  A thin coat of varnish was applied to this area as well.  It appears to be a wrap which allowed a previous owner to keep the rod in service, rather than find and wrap the correct thread.  The yellow tipping is still in place.  This is an easy fix if a new owner wishes the correct matching green thread.  Second, the reel seat has a thin crack running down the center of the black plastic spacer.  This is commonly seen on these reel seats, but, as with this one, the cracks are merely cosmetic.  The rod weighs 4.55 ounces, which is just slightly more than the 4.25 ounces indicated on the cane.  The previous owner(s) of this rod took very good care of it.  The rod is supplied in its original bag and original labeled tube.  The label is a bit tattered.  Priced at $750 shipped and insured.
