8’6” 3/2 Heddon #50 DeLuxe “President” Bamboo Fly Rod – 2F – Uncommon – 1946-1948

Offering a top-of-the-line 8’6” Heddon #50 DeLuxe model President in a size 2 ferrule designation. Based on the Heddon script, reel seat, wrap colors, gunmetal Perfection stripping guide, and aluminum rod case, the rod appears to date to a short period between 1946 and 1948. According to Heddon, this rod was made by its most skilled craftsmen using the best cane and materials available. This beautifully brown tempered rod is furnished with a lovely screw-locking reel seat composed of imported Circassian walnut, black fiber, and nickel silver fittings; hand-made split ferrules finished in black; and Perfection guides wound in rich brown with green trim. All sections are original and full length, and all guides and wraps are tight. The ferrule fit is marginally good, as the tip section males are out of round and missing the water seals. Also, the varnish had a past meltdown, particularly on one of the tip sections. With a little effort, the varnish can be brought back, since it is not soft. Written diagonally in original Heddon script is “Heddon DeLuxe” and “#50” above the hook keeper. As expected with the 2F Heddon designation, the ferrules are sizes 18 and 11 (in 64th of an inch). Heddon referred to this taper as its “Standard Trout” action for an HDH or E line, which is equivalent to a modern 5 or 6 wt. line. The rod weighs a mere 5.4 ounces with screw-locking reel seat. This is an exceptional rod with a taper to handle a variety of situations. The rod comes with its original labeled case, but it is, unfortunately, missing its bag. With a little varnish and ferrule work, this rod can be returned to all its glory as one of Heddon’s best grade rods. Please review the photos for further details.
