7’6” 2/2 H.L. Leonard 39H Bamboo Fly Rod – 6 wt. – c. 1975
Manufacturer: H.L. Leonard®
1595.00
Product Available
Offering a Leonard model 39H in a 7’6” 2-piece configuration in excellent condition. The rod carries the serial number 2665, which indicates a build date of 1975. At this time, the 39H was described as a rod capable of handling heavier flies and windy conditions around western waters. Leonard listed this rod with a 6 wt. line rating, and a WF6 is, indeed, a great line with this rod. As indicated by the writing, immaculate varnish, and upgraded aesthetics, the rod was returned to Leonard for a makeover around 1980. It now carries features consistent with rods from the time when Tom Maxwell was managing the Leonard shop. In essence, this is a stunning rod with a wonderful taper capable of handling a variety of flies and conditions. The rod is structurally sound with no issues. It is ready to take fishing. All sections are full length and straight. All guides, wraps, and ferrules are tight. The ferrule fit is excellent. The rod is equipped with a 5 1/2” slim cigar grip, a down screw-locking reel seat with polished Mahogany insert and acorn shaped butt cap, a Carboloy stripping guide, and size 13/64 oxidized nickel silver ferrules. The rod weighs 4.0 ounces. Completing the rod is a Leonard brown poplin bag with stiffener and leather tab and a Leonard saddle-leather covered aluminum case (the case has some blemishes and wear to the leather).
